Victorinox Knives: The Original Creator Of The Swiss Army Knife!

Victorinox knives are a truly superb brand. They are one of the most well known and successful knife companies ever created. More commonly known as the supplier and creator of the original Swiss Army Knives. One of the most high quality knife brands to date, and they have had plenty enough time to perfect their trade.  They also are rival to the other Swiss Army Knife brand Wenger.

They were founded in 1884 by a man named Carl Elsener. Who named the company after a combination of the words "Victoria" who was his mother who had passed away after the founding of the company and the word "Inox" which is descended from the French term for "Stainless Steel". Swiss Army Knives are known for their high quality blades and compaction of many tools into a single condensed lightweight one via attachments onto a single folding knife. Enough of the history lesson and on to their more modern work and products.

Modern Innovations:

Victorinox after over 120 are still making quality products. Some of their models have over 30 unique purpose tools on them. They have been putting some of the most innovative attachments onto their knives, and this shows on one of their models that even includes a USB flash drive. We will touch on those models a little bit later down the road though.

The most common attachments that you will find on a Swiss Army Knife are:

• Knife (Both long and short on some models)
  
• Double sided file (Fine and course)
• Saw Blade
  
• Key Ring
• Toothpick
  
• Bottle Opener
• Can Opener
  
• Screwdriver (Usually both Phillips and Flat Head)
• Tweezers

Those can be found on some more common and cheap Swiss Army knives. Those models would include the Swiss Army Tinker and the Swiss Army Classic there are of course other models that are far more complex than that, but those are the attachments that you will find on most standard Victorinox Swiss Army Knives.

As previously stated some of Victorinox's models have over 30 different unique purpose attachments and others have very innovative attachments. One of the more complex model series would be the SwissChamp series. Most of the models in this series have over 30 attachments. They include all of the attachments from the more simple models and more. Some of the extra attachments and tools would include:

• Magnifying glass
• Hook (For assistance in carrying things with rope handles)
• Ball Point Pen
• Wood Chisels
• Pliers (with wire cutter in one)
• Bottle opener (with wire stripper in one)
• Straight Pin
• Fish Scaler with Hook Disgorger and Ruler
• Sewing eye
• Corkscrew
  
• And many others!

As you can see there are many interesting tools in the more complex Victorinox models. These models of course cost significantly more though, but the quality is worth it.

There are many more models and some have very impressive features. For example lets take the Multi-Tool Light series. The key features of this series are:

• Every model contains some type of flashlight.
• Some models come with a built in clock.

The cool thing about this series is that it still includes a lot of the SwissChamp features. I think this is an especially great series for someone who camps a lot.

One of my absolute favorite series though would have to be the USB Flash Series. The key features of this series are:

• All models contain a USB flash drive.
• Some models contain a flash light.
• Some model contain a laser pointer.

As shown in the picture to the right some of the models still have the key common attachments. Not all models in the series do though. I think the model that includes a laser pointer and the USB would be a great choice for a businessman that has to do presentations often and would like a little spice.

In the end Victorinox has such creative products that almost anyone can benefit from, and after 120 years their products are still solid. Whether you are camping, fishing, hiking, or are in the office there is a place for you in the Victorinox products.
